Abstract

Twin delivery is associated with an increased risk of cerebral palsy. (CP). We studied the incidence of CP in twins compared with singletons born from 1989 to 1994 at the district of Himeji Central Public Health Center. The incidence of CP was 1.9% in twin: 12.7 times as high as that in singletons (0.15%), and was particularly high in monozygotic twins. Since circulatory changes specific for twin pregnancies may cause brain damage, careful obstetric management is recommended for monozygotic twins.
