Abstract

To explore the diagnostic and prognostic value of plasma saliva acid (SA) level for laryngeal carcinoma. The plasma level of SA was measured in healthy individuals, cases with laryngeal benign diseases and cases with laryngeal carcinoma of different clinical stage. The plasma SA level in patients with laryngeal carcinoma was measured periodically at 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 1 year after operation. The plasma SA level was significantly higher in patients with laryngeal carcinoma and 2 weeks postoperatively than that in healthy individuals and patients with benign diseases(P <0.01), there was no significant difference in plasma SA level between healthy individuals and patients with benign diseases(P >0.05). It decreased gradually if there was no recurrence and metastasis in patients with laryngeal carcinoma between 4 weeks and 1 year after operation, but it maintained at high level if there was recurrence or metastasis. The detection of plasma SA level periodically has an important referenced value in diagnosis and prognosis for laryngeal carcinoma.
