Abstract

To investigate the immune function of erythrocyte (RBC) and leucocyte (WBC), and variety of the interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) among patients with allergic rhinitis. IL-4 and IFN-gamma secreted by peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) were measured and compared with immune adhesive and BA-ELISA method. Results showed the RBC and WBC immune adhesive function and IFN-gamma were significantly decreased than of the control, and IL-4 activity were significantly higher than the controls (P < 0.01) in patients with perennial allergic rhinitis. These results suggest that RBC and WBC the immune function and IL-4 and IFN-gamma may play an important role in allergic rhinitis.

Adhesion Molecules in Health and Disease

Cell adhesion molecules are a subset of cell adhesion proteins located on the cell surface involved in binding with other cells or with the extracellular matrix in the process called cell adhesion. In essence, cell adhesion molecules help cells stick to each other and to their surroundings. Cell adhesion is a crucial component in maintaining tissue structure and function.
