Donor anti-complement therapy: Complement-ing the protection array?

Abstract

The complement pathway is a multi-faceted actor of the immune response. Primed through either the classical, alternative, or lectin-mediated activation pathway, its terminal products C5b-C9 complexes are directly responsible for cell death through the formation of membrane pores, and intermediaries such as C5a promote cell activation and the secretion of pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic factors.
