Abstract

A case in which the bispectral index monitor underwent an acute change that was most likely the earliest indicator of an intraoperative stroke during replacement of an aortic valve is discussed in this study. The timely response to this intraoperative event may have facilitated a better outcome by virtue of more rapid interventions to limit the severity of the injury.
