Abstract

Until recently, it had been hoped that the incidence of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease was declining. However, new findings suggest that people previously thought not to be at risk may simply be incubating the disease for longer. The disease is always fatal, and places heavy demands on families and social and health care professionals, as care needs vary and can change rapidly.
