Abstract

We describe a patient with eosinophilic folliculitis (EF) that developed 3 months after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) for chronic myelogenous leukemia. Skin biopsy specimen revealed numerous eosinophil infiltrations from the hair follicles to the sebaceous glands. No sign of skin graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) was found. The skin lesions and peripheral eosinophilia subsided within 5 weeks. In the following 8 months, the rash did not recur and GVHD has not developed. Taken together with previous reports, the present case demonstrates that it is important to recognize this distinct skin condition to avoid an inference that it may manifest itself as one of the signs of skin GVHD.

Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous disease with approximately 20,000 cases per year in the United States. AML also accounts for 15-20% of all childhood acute leukemias, while it is responsible for more than half of the leukemic deaths in these patients. Here is the latest research on this disease.

Allogenic & Autologous Therapies

Allogenic therapies are generated in large batches from unrelated donor tissues such as bone marrow. In contrast, autologous therapies are manufactures as a single lot from the patient being treated. Here is the latest research on allogenic and autologous therapies.

Blood And Marrow Transplantation

The use of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation or blood and marrow transplantation (bmt) is on the increase worldwide. BMT is used to replace damaged or destroyed bone marrow with healthy bone marrow stem cells. Here is the latest research on bone and marrow transplantation.
