Immunotherapy, which improves the defense mechanisms of the host, is increasingly being used for the treatment of infectious diseases as well as tumours, in addition to other therapeutic tools. In this publication it is shown than an exact knowledge of the immunologic defense mechanisms is necessary for specific immunotherapy. A summary of the immunotherapeutic possibilities is presented.
