Abstract

Malakoplakia is a specific type of chronic inflammation coexisting with Escherichia coli infection. The prostate form is extremely rare and can mimic cancer of the prostate. The diagnosis is based on biopsy and histologic examination. Antibioticotherapy is the method of choice. In the paper, etiology, clinic and diagnostics of malakoplakia is described. We present two cases of malakoplakia of the prostate. The diagnosis was established by biopsy and histologic examination. One patient was treated sucessfully with antibiotics, the second had acute retention of urine and adenomectomy was performed in this case. Malakoplakia of the prostate is extremely rare and can mimic cancer. The definitive diagnosis usually is made through biopsy and histologic examination. If there are no indications for operation, long-term good results can be achieved with antibiotics.
