Abstract

Although the opportunities for research in the field of anesthesiology are boundless, it may be difficult for the young anesthesiologists to seek the important and interesting subjects of the research work related to anesthesiology, since the realm o f anesthesiology istoo broad. It is like a voyage without a chart and a compass. In this issue of the journal, five topics in the field of anesthesiology including (1) the mechanism of general anesthesia, (2) adrenergic receptor, (3) treatment of intractable cancer pain, (4) acute lung injury, and (5) donor heart preservation are discussed in detail. I hope some of these discussions will stimulate the scientific mind of young anesthesiologists who wish to do research in the filed of anesthesiology in the near future.
