Normalization of SH-group concentration in brain tissue during sleep disorders

Abstract

In albino rats, after cessation of the 24-hr REM sleep deprivation, the SH-group content usually increased by that moment in brain-stem homogenates, dropped to its wakefulness level within 36 hr. Intraperitoneal injection of Phenazepam immediately after cessation of the REM sleep deprivation accelerated normalization of the SH-group content reducing the period to 12 hr. Phenazepam injection (0.5 mg/kg) before and in 12 hr after the REM sleep deprivation completely prevented the increase in the brain-stem SH-group content. Lower doses or a single injection before the REM sleep deprivation only decreased somewhat the SH-group accumulation.
