Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to review the pharmacological background of the use of dopamine (DA), DA agonists, and DA prodrugs in the treatment of congestive heart failure (CHF). Studies leading to the use of DA and methods utilized to investigate new DA agonists are reviewed. Finally, preclinical and clinical data of DA agonists and prodrugs are evaluated to estimate current and future roles of DA, DA agonists, and DA prodrugs in the treatment of congestive heart failure.
