Abstract

A retrospective study was performed to evaluate hard- and soft-tissue changes after onlay bone grafts in atrophic maxillae. The assessment included 49 patients who received bone grafts from the iliac crest. Lateral cephalograms were taken pre- and postoperatively and analyzed by the Dentofacial Planner System. Sagittal hard tissue changes from 2.3 to 3.5 mm (p < 0.01) in an anterior direction were found. Soft-tissue advancements from 2.3 mm (p = 0.0039) to 2.7 mm (p = 0.0018) were measured. The relationship of soft-tissue changes to hard-tissue changes ranged from 0.7:1 to 0.9:1.
