Abstract

The recommendations of the Study Group for Cerebrovascular Diseases of the Portuguese Society of Neurology are presented with regard to the following aspects: risk factors for stroke, primary and secondary stroke prevention by carotid endarterectomy, primary and secondary stroke prevention in non-valvular auricular fibrillation, platelet antiaggregation in primary and secondary ischemic stroke prevention, hospitalisation criteria for patients with acute stroke, stroke units, and also a model report for carotid and vertebral Doppler ultrasonography tests, as well as diagnostic criteria for carotid stenosis by ultrasonography.
