Abstract

Mortality in patients with ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (rAAAs) has remained high despite advances in interventions. Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) was recently developed for treatment of rAAAs. In this study, we assessed our endovascular strategy including a double-balloon technique for rAAA. We analyzed 12 consecutive patients with rAAAs who were treated by our double-balloon technique and endovascular strategy from March 2013 to July 2016. The 30-day and 1-year mortality rates were both 17%. The mean times from admission to arrival at the hybrid operating room, from admission to aortic occlusion, and from admission to completion of EVAR were 46.8, 63.5, and 110.0 minutes, respectively. This study indicates that the herein-described double-balloon endovascular technique is feasible for use in the management of rAAA.

Cardiac Aneurysm

Aneurysm refers to a bulge of the wall or lining of a vessel commonly occurring in the blood vessels at the base of the septum or within the aorta. In the heart, it usually arises from a patch of weakened tissue in a ventricular wall, which swells into a bubble filled with blood. Discover the latest research on cardiac aneurysm here.

Aortic Aneurysm

An aortic aneurysm is the weakening and bulging of the blood vessel wall in the aorta. This causes dilatation of the aorta, which is usually asymptomatic but carries the risk of rupture and hemorrhage. Find the latest research on aortic aneurysms here.

Aneurysm

Aneurysms are outward distensions or bulges that occurs in a weakened wall of blood vessels. Discover the latest research on aneurysms here.
