Abstract

Polymorphism of microsatellite (CA)n repeat in the second intron of the apolipoprotein AH gene--one of the major structural proteins of high-density lipoproteins--was performed in male coronary heart disease (CHD) patients and in a random sample of men from the Moscow population. No association between the polymorphism and the development of CHD was revealed. Therefore, apolipoprotein AII gene is not a factor of genetic risk of the development of atherosclerosis in the population studied.

Serum cholesterol, triglycerides, apolipoprotein B (APOB)-containing lipoproteins (very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), immediate-density lipoprotein (IDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL), lipoprotein A (LPA)) and the total cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol ratio are all connected in diseases. Here is the latest research.
