Abstract

Two patients, one with a Zencker diverticulum, the other with a large transglottic carcinoma, are presented to demonstrate the use of the thoracic abdominal (TA) automatic stapler for suturing the mucosal line. We found the method described to be very suitable for these cases, shortening significantly the operation time in laryngectomy and in resection of Zencker diverticulum. The instrument makes a perfect suture line, and convalescence is very short as well. An increased use for the TA automatic suture in future seems likely.
